Cell Phone Policy

Possession and Use of Personal Telecommunications Devices, Including Cell Telephones

Cell phone use is allowed in cafeteria during the students lunch time.  However, cell phones will be set on silent in the building at all times.

Headphone use is allowed in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch with only one ear covered for safety precautions.

Students are prohibited to use cell phone or other electronic devices during instruction time (between 8:20 am and 3:50 pm) without prior permission from their classroom teacher for education purposes. The term “electronic device” includes, but is not limited to, cell phones,  MP3 players, tablets, and computers. The student is required to forfeit the device upon request, failure to do so will likely result in placement in ISS or DAEP.

Disciplinary Actions for Electronic Device Violations are:

1st offense: Pick up in the office at the end of the day with documented warning

2nd offense: 1 hour detention – pick up in the office at the end of the day.

3rd offense: Parent/guardian must pick up the phone in the office and student assigned 2 hour detention

4th and subsequent offenses: Parent/guardian must pick up the phone in the office and student assigned ISS

Please note: students who refuse to forfeit their device will be automatically assigned a five day placement in ISS.

Please note: students who bring these items to school do so at their own discretion and are responsible for the security of those items. Anna ISD is not responsible for these items should they be lost or stolen.

The consequences listed above are supported in the Texas Education Code, Chapter 37.082.

The use of cell phone or any device capable of capturing images is strictly prohibited in locker rooms or restroom areas while at school or at a school-related or school-sponsored event.

Confiscated telecommunications devices that are not retrieved by the student or the student’s parents will be disposed of after the notice required by law. [See policy FNCE.]

In limited circumstances and in accordance with law, a student’s personal telecommunications device may be searched by authorized personnel. [See Searches and policy FNF.]

Any disciplinary action will be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. The district is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen telecommunications devices.

The respect, non-disruptive use of cell phone is permitted in any area except those listed above. As soon as the threshold of the prohibited area is crossed, during the school day, cell phones need to be put away and made undetectable (i.e., silenced without vibration).

All cell phone use must be respectful and non-disruptive to students and staff.

Instructional Use of Personal Telecommunications and Other Electronic Devices

In some cases, students may find it beneficial or might be encouraged to use personal telecommunications or other personal electronic devices for instructional purposes while on campus. Students must obtain prior approval before using personal telecommunications or other personal electronic devices for instructional use. Students must also sign a user agreement that contains applicable rules for use. When students are not using the devices for approved instructional purposes, all devices must be turned off during the instructional day. Violations of the user agreement may result in withdrawal of privileges and other disciplinary action.
